ADHD Evaluation and Ongoing Care
If your child can’t sit still for homework, loses track of instructions halfway through, or keeps bringing home notes from a teacher about focus, you don’t have to guess at what’s happening. A structured ADHD evaluation gives you an answer and a plan.
Dr. Afsheen Abid, M.D., evaluates and manages ADHD for children and teens across McKinney, Frisco, Prosper, and Collin County—in the same practice that handles your child’s checkups and sick visits, with a physician who already knows your child’s history.
“Parents usually arrive having worried about this for a long time. The point of an evaluation is to replace the worry with a plan.”
ADHD can also look like quiet inattention with no hyperactivity at all—a pattern that is more often missed in girls and in older students.
We follow the American Academy of Pediatrics clinical practice guideline and DSM-5-TR criteria. The process has four parts.
Treatment is not automatically medication. Depending on your child’s age and needs, a plan may include behavioral strategies and parent training, school accommodations, sleep and routine changes, referral for therapy or psychoeducational testing, and medication when appropriate.
Every plan includes regular follow-up visits to monitor progress—including growth, appetite, sleep, and how your child is doing at school—and to adjust care as your child grows.
We complete teacher rating scales, provide documentation for 504 plan and IEP meetings, write letters supporting classroom accommodations, and, with your written consent, communicate with school counselors and teachers. We regularly work with families from McKinney ISD, Prosper ISD, Frisco ISD, and Allen ISD.
ADHD can be reliably evaluated starting around age 4. We evaluate and manage ADHD from preschool through age 21, including teens heading to college who need documentation for accommodations.
When a concern needs a specialist—such as a psychologist, therapist, or neuropsychological testing—we coordinate the referral and stay involved in your child’s care.
ADHD evaluation is a covered medical service under most commercial plans, Texas Medicaid (STAR), and CHIP when medically necessary. We’re happy to help you check your benefits before the visit—call 972-532-0535. Self-pay options are available. Learn more about Medicaid and CHIP at BrightKids.
Timing depends mostly on how quickly the rating scales come back from home and school. We’ll give you a clear timeline at your first visit.
As a board-certified pediatrician, Dr. Abid diagnoses and manages ADHD. We refer for psychoeducational or neuropsychological testing when a learning disorder needs separate assessment.
Teacher input is part of the diagnostic criteria. We’ll give you the forms to share with the school.
